of Columbia ParCar NEVs in action - here
Columbia was one of the first American manufacturers
to develop and market a Neighborhood Electric Vehicle. Referred
to as NEVs, these vehicles meet or exceed NHTSA standards
making them legal for street use. a few of the items called
for in the standards are hydraulic brakes, head, tail, back
up, brake and license plate lights, rear and side view mirrors,
emergency flashers, seat belts and safety glass windshield
w/ wiper. With a top speed of 25 mph, these vehicles can
be operated on public roads having a speed limit of 35 mph
or less. They have a range, between charges, of approximately
40 miles. Based on local electric rates, charging the 48
Volt battery bank should cost less than one dollar. Comparing
that to $4.00 per gallon gasoline, that's like getting 160
miles on one gallon with zero vehicle produced emissions.
